Welder qualification as per Chapter IX of ASME B31.3.

Dear Experts,

As per ASME B31.3  Chapter IX Welding, does performance qualification requires all mechanical testing to do be done including tensile, bend, impact, lateral expansion to be measured apart form RT.

As per Clause K328.2.1(e)

(e) Mechanical testing is required for all performance
qualification tests.

Pl share your valuable inputs.

In my opinion, only bend tests as stipulated in QW -452 of ASME Section 09 is applicable.  

 

And the interpretation is as below,

In ASME B31.3 Chapter 09, the requirements are as below

1.       K328.2.1 Qualification Requirements.

           e) Mechanical testing is required for all performance

qualification tests.

 

And if we refer to ASME Section 09, QW-302 TYPE OF TEST REQUIRED, QW-302.1 Mechanical Tests which in turn reference to QW-452. 

Thus, only bend test is considered as mechanical testing for welder qualification tests.
