Dear Experts,

I hope this message finds you well.

I would like to seek your clarification regarding the applicability of an existing WPS.

We have successfully qualified a WPS for welding SS316L to Super Duplex using ER2594 filler metal. Both base materials are classified under P-No. 8 to 10H, and the filler metal falls under F-No. 6.

However, our actual production requirement involves welding SS316L to Duplex Stainless Steel using ER2209, which also falls under F-No. 6, and the base metals remain under P-No. 8 to 10H.

As per ASME Section IX, since the base metal P-Numbers and filler metal F-Numbers remain unchanged, could you please confirm whether the existing WPS is valid for this application as well, or if a new qualification is required?

Thank you in advance for your guidance and support.

Regards,

Nambirajan A

If supplementary requirements for impact testing are applicable, a change in A-number will require new WPS qualification; however, if impact testing is not required, the existing WPS can be used as long as the P-Number and F-Number remain unchanged.

Deerendra..
