Query regarding PWHT as per ANSI B31.3-2014

Dear Experts,

Good Day!!

I have a query regarding PWHT requirements as per ANSI B31.3-2014.

As referred in table 331.1.1 all P.No 1 material shall be subject to PWHT regardless thickness and in table 331.1.3 exemptions to mandatory PWHT mentioned which providing 95ºC preheat applied on material with nominal thickness over 25mm, PWHT can be exempted.

Does it mean "for material with nominal thickness less than 25mm, PWHT is not mandatory"?

Appreciated if you share your valuable ideas.

You should also note that if you are dealing with boiler external piping (BEP), under ASME Section I, the 2014 edition of B31.1 has not been accepted/adopted.  BEP will be designed and fabricated in accordance with the 2009 edition.  The 2009 edition will remain in place until the Section I committee adopts the 2014.
