Regarding SS 304 Cleaning

Dear Experts,

Kindly let me know that If SS is effected by Carbon steel and surface get little effected, then is it right to clean it with Nitric Acid by dipping.

Yes you can use a nitric solution for passivation to eliminate carbon pick-up.

use 1:4, Hydrofluoric acid :Nitric acid with water and clean

What is removed by passivation is Fe and not C

Stainless steel weld surfaces are invariably contaminated by the iron oxide-rich condensed fume deposits surrounding the weldment. If left in situ, this can cause very unsightly rust staining when it become damp . This is what has to be removed. There are numerous proprietary cleaners available from local welding distributors.
