Dear expert's.

We are going to perform PQR  on material API 5L X60 (P1 G2 to P1 G2) 6" pipe.
Thk-21.95mm as per ASME sec 9.
Welding process-(GTAW Er70s-2(spl) + SMAW(E7018-1))

Client requirement are PWHT with impact test with other test as per code .
Kindly guide me for impact test temperature requirements.

We are qualifying this PQR  to weld rolled fittings of A537 CL1. thk 30 mm.
Design code ASME SEC 8 DIV1.

Impact test shall be performed at -48degC

and pls ensure whether API 5L X60 is suitable for this temperature from the MTC

Thanks & Regards

 thanks for replying
As per MTC of pipe, it's showing impact test at 0 degree C. Attached image for reference

Just to add. Charpy Impact test at MDMT (Minimum design Metal temperature) but if you perform at -48degC it can be used in the future.

API 5L X60 if ordered with special impact test requirement at -48degC then it will meet the requirement.

Depends on Design code and applicable impact test requirements else you can use X46 to X46 pqr

Based on the information provided, the impact testing requirements for your PQR qualification will depend on the service temperature and thickness of the material being welded.

For API 5L X60 pipe, if the service temperature is below -29°C (-20°F), impact testing is required as per ASME Section IX QW-451.1. In this case, the required impact test temperature for base metal and weld metal is -46°C (-50°F).

For A537 CL1 rolled fittings, impact testing is required as per ASME Section VIII Div.1 UCS-66. The minimum design metal temperature (MDMT) of the vessel or equipment being fabricated will determine the required impact test temperature for the material being welded. If the MDMT is below the impact test exemption curve specified in UCS-66, impact testing is required. The required impact test temperature will be the lower of the MDMT and the impact test exemption curve temperature.
