Dear Sir,
you may specify in the WPS a range of the base metal thickness different from the one prescribed per Table QW-451.1, as long as the latter has not been exceeded.
In this case the range in the WPS is 13 - 44 mm, even though the theoretical qualification range according to Table QW-451.1 would be 5 - 44 mm, so everything is fine.

A PQR was qualified with a test coupon of 22mm and in reference WPS the thickness range is given as 13-44 mm. Upon raising query it was informed that this WPS would only be used for welding of plates in the thickness range of 13-44. Is it correct or theoretical thickness range as per Table 451.1 of ASME sec IX should have been mentioned. please reply
