Dear Sirs,

Project: Coal fired power plant ASME B31.1 CODE

We received a pipe material 1 inch dia with a material of A335 P91.
This material had been welded.
During operational, 2 years after, one pipe burst out.
We send for testing to check the chemical composition. Please see attached docs.

I checked on ASME Section II Part A and it was very far from the chemical requirements of A335 P91.

My query is that, what kind of pipe material base on the result of test report.

Your reply to this query will be highly appreciated.

Regards,

Mac

Dear Mac,

The chemical composition/properties of the tested material are aprx. meeting with SA335 P1/P2.

It should be tested when the material was received through PMI to confirm major elements like Cr, Mo, etc.

Regards,
Rajnish

I see quite complicated my very dear sir, it is easiest to think, that in my humble opinion; make again inspection with PMI, this equipment contains a database large enough to pipe carbon steel or otherwise of the materials listed in Section II of ASME, then you give one or two suggestions of material to inspected and already with that outcome consult the code again, it will be easier to hit it to the identification of the material no desire to annoy, that inspection is best done when the materials are bought, to verify their authenticity before making installation and avoid catastrophic failures like the one you already have.
