This preocupation is for LNG thanks (120 000 m3 capacity).
As per the contract and procedure, the radiography test (RT) is
required. My contractor needs to do the ultrasonic test (UT).
My question is:
To do the ultrasonic test (UT) or the radiography test (RT)?
Tanks in advance and have a nice day.

Hi Redouane,
ASME allows UT in lieu of RT but not as a blanket approval.Under the above code case on a specific case by case basis this change of NDE technique is acceptable. But the UT technique should not be conventional pulse echo type, it has to be state of art digitized UT techniques such as TOFD or Phased Array.
If the design code for the LNG tank is API-620, then the following is the selection criteria of UT in lieu of RT.
7.15.3 Ultrasonic Examination Method
7.15.3.1 Ultrasonic Examination in Lieu of Radiography:-When ultrasonic examination is applied in order to fulfill the requirements of 5.26, Q.7.6, or R.7.6, the provisions of Appendix U shall apply. Appendix U also talks about the NDE techniques mentioned above.
Let me know, if it
helps.
Thanks.

Thank you for your answer,
Yes, you are right and I agree with you, the appendix U of API 620
code is very clear, but my opinion it is of not tolerated with my
contractor.
Actually my contractor wants to use UT in place RT for the reasons of
cost because UT is not expensive than RT.
Further to your answer I have to communicate the appendix U of the
code API 620 in races of technique one following of course the
contractual clauses.
Please I want a piping cleaning specification for heat exchanger.
PS: I am sorry to put the similar conversations because I am not
qualified in the quality control and during my career I am only
in the management of project. Also sorry about my English because in
Algeria the French language is prime
Thank you PGOSWAMI and have a good day
