Dear Experts,

Could you please share the standard requirements for piping hydro test, because our chines contractor has not ready to conduct hydro test for the same piping. they said as per chines standard no need hydro test.

What’s the design and fabrication code for Piping??

 

Usually pressure piping  have to be hydro tested (by default) as like pressure vessel. No exceptions to rules?

 

A citation from the appropriate code or mentioning the appropriate code would be appreciated.

Noted for your valuable point. But the contractor is asking to show the code requirements. 

B31.1 has followed for design and fabrication of the Piping.

You have to refer B31. 3 ASME CODE for fabrication and installation for hydrates ring.

Pressure test is a mandatory requirement of  pressure piping designed and fabricated according to B-31.1 code. Clause 137 & various other clauses  of this code explicitly specifies the requirements. The medium could be Hydro or Pneumatic.

 

Pneumatic test is  not advisable for safety and integrity of piping components. Hence Hydro test is the default choice.
