As precautionary measure we have selected Hyper Duplex 2707 as welding material for the reactor. In principle 2707 HD is considered as a grade higher than 2507 as far as PREN is concerned, owing to which we brought it into the picture.
We wish to know your feedback on the quality of welding attained with this combination and corrosion resistance of weld joints as it goes through heat transition during welding.
Hi Pankaj,
What’s the rationale behind selecting 2707 HD filler for 2507 filler metal, knowing the facts that in almost 100% of the cases, matching 2507 filler would meet or exceed the design requirements of 2507 base metals. What ‘s the reactor involved including the design requirements ? These would be the guiding factors for selecting matching or superior grades of welding consumables.
Your responses would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi Pankaj,
Please see the extract from Sandvik Literature. S -51- 63. 11/ 20 06 on welding recommendations of SAF 2007HD base metal. The matching welding consumable is 27.9.5.L. Should your client insist on this type of welding consumable for welding SAF 2507 then 27.9.5.L would be the choice.
My understanding there’re very few manufacturers of such welding products which are compatible to SAF 2707 HD. It may be proprietary to Sandvik.
An extract from their literature is produced here for general understanding of the welding metallurgy of this alloy. The highlighted are worth noting to meet the required design specifications’ requirements.
Note: the description below is for general understanding, not to promote any one’s product.
Hope it would help to clear your doubts.
Thanks.
