Dear All
Need your expert opinion on below query.

We are working on new project with Pressure Parts proposed to customer in ASME A335 P11 materials.

Since the ambient temperature is -48C, we need to perform the Impact Test for the same.

We think that the pipe material can be impact tested. Since this test is not a standard requirement for SA335 P11 pipes no guarantee is provided on the resulting minimum impact energy.

Any suggestions ????

Warm Regards
Praphulla

Hi,

Why do you intend to use a high temperature service alloy in a low temperature service ? Are you sure that the service temperature is -48 degree C for a boiler pressure part component !!!

Since impact test is standard requirement,  it should have been requested for in the purchase order. Purchasing without requesting impact testing is error, there no assurance the material can intended function in the service environment.

If.am correct he is talking about ambient temp.

Means he has to.go.for insulation.and cladding to.avoid heavy heat loss and prevevent pipe from low temp.

Hi Mr. Lalu
We are using these tubes as WHRU tubes which will face 650 C GT exhaust hence we had considered P11 tubes. Now since customer asking for impact testing @ min. Ambient Temperature as mandatory.

Hi Mr. Praphulla,

I understood, but how the ambient temperature would be -48 deg for an insulated HRA panel.

Couple of suggestions.

- consider having heat tracing or
- have warm up before start up of this system

It is unlikely to obtain the energy at -48 deg c

It is an illusion. You are going to get very low impact energies

Pl. elaborate @ - 48 Deg C

Why you want to use GR 11 for this temperature . ?
What are  impact energy values required ?
What is the thickness of pipie ?
PL note it is very difficult to get the energy values especially HAZ and WELD

Yes keshkar. Since these materials& weld having coarse grain, it is difficult to get impact values at -48

Hi,

If Api rp 582 applicable then, impact test is required to qualify weld metal

Hi!
All the requirements depends upon
I) Applicable spec. Clients additional requirement
ii) service condition viz, Design Temp, Service condition ,Thk of the Eqpt,

Unless these are addressed ,It will be very difficult to decide the procurement and processing of Eqpt material
