Dear Experts

I am new for this job please help me

for PQR of LTCS

1) required thickness min is 6.35mm &  dia is 12 inch

2) design press = 20kg/cm2
design temp  = -45.6/37.8 degreee celcius
     op press      = 20 max
op temp       = -40 degree celcius

3)  material is pipe - A 333 GR 6(P1 &G1) and flange - A350 GR LF2 RF

4) service is LPG plant- Relief and blow down

now please suggest me
 a) what is is the size of the test coupon can be selected(dia with schd) where can i find the exact length of weld required to carry out mechanical testing for this PQR?
 b) is it possible to carry out the PQR for pipe to flange joint
 c) what consumable can be selected for this if GTAW & SMAW ?

Regards
AHMAD

Hi buddy!!!

Since your joint is between P.No 1-Gr No 1 (A333-Gr6) and P.No1-Gr No2 (A350 LF2) and impact test is mandatory (cause Gr No to be essential variable) so your PQR shall joint between P.No 1-Gr No 1 & P.No1-Gr No2. I think most available material to meet above-mentioned criteria is SA-516Gr70 to SA-516Gr60.

your quarries;
a) If you do not have other thicknesses so thickness 10mm is so enough!.
b)Yes.
c)GTAW filler; ER-80SNi(if NACEMR0175/ISO15156 is not applicable)/SMAW filler: E7018-1.

Dear Ahmad ,

The main difference between LTCS and Carbon manganese steel is the percentage of manganese , silicon and nickel which is pretty high in LTCS. LTCS weldability is similar to CS except it may require preheat , PWHT , hardness check as it mostly operates at low temp .  You can use low hydrogen electrode ( E7018 ) and ER70S6 . Check for heat treatment and impact toughness requirements  as per your project specification and do the necessary with your PQR .

Thanks
TDK Yokesh

ER70S-6 can not be used, because impact test limitation.

in your case and assuming that your Code is ASME VIII-1,  A333 for this thickness & temperature  is not exempted from Impact test. What is the governing thickness of A350? You can avoid impact if you satisfy all conditions of UG-20
