Material – IS 2062 (or Pno 1)

Thickness – above 20mm.

Process – SAW – (No SMAW, No Tig and etc)

Joint configuration – Square butt, both sides welding.

Its not for a LSAW, it's for spiral welded pipe, and also its for a water service application not for Oil&Gas,

Hello Lakshman,

Square butt SAW on 20 mm (3/4”) thick would be difficult some chamfer or Vee-Prep would be required. This technique is perfectly feasible for @  ½”   thickness. Please see this online handbook from EASB for more guidance.

Thanks.

Hi Goswami, thanks a lot fir the info, however in one of my earlier site I welded with square but for 18mm double side SAW weld, however I lost that data, some of the water sector teams might have the data, and I am looking for the same.

Dear Laxman,

For IS pipes you can follow IS 7307 for WPS/PQR.
But You can not do welding of 20 mm and above with square butt, double V groove can give you satisfactory results.Tandem arrangements will be needed for the same.
Rest all parameters and essential variable you can find in IS 7307.
You can get format of WPS/PQR in IS 7307 OR ASME Section IX
