South Hadley Mass had a small house fire yesterday
apparently the Town of South Hadley is served by 2 fire districts -
but they seem to operate pretty much as 1 FD - but have 2 different
dispatch systems and 2 different radio channels
Broadcastify has 2 feeds for them - 1 is labeled as "South Hadley
Fire" - that is the Fire District 2 feed - the other feed is labeled
as "South Hadley Fire District 1" - that is the District 1 feed
apparently - District 1 operates simplex on 151.175 and District 2
uses a repeater on 153.275 R
District 1 sent Engine 1 and Tower 3 to the fire - District 2 sent
Engine 4 to the fire
The dispatch system seems to work like this - 911 calls are answered
by the South Hadley Police dispatcher - that dispatcher then radios
the info to the appropriate Fire District via their district radio
channel - then the appropriate fire district dispatcher activates his
pagers - somehow the 2nd fire district gets notified and that district
dispatcher than activates his pagers on his channel - all responding
units use the district channel of the district where the fire is
located
So for the fire call yesterday - radio traffic heard seemed to be -
151.175 - you have a fire on Berwyn St Ext - pagers activated -
respond engine and tower to structure fire on Berwyn St - "going to
call forwarding" - 153.275R - pagers activated - respond to fire at
Berwyn St Ext
not sure why they went to "call forwarding" - unless they left the
District 1 base station unmanned for a couple of minutes
eDispatches shows a couple of different entries - "SHadleyBox" and
"SHFD2-FullTone" are 2 of them
the radio IDs used by the various dispatchers include - "Radio" -
maybe is the PD dispatcher - "District 2 Headquarters" aka
"Headquarters" - maybe "7 oh 3" is the Fire District 1 base station
command officers were X1 X5 X9 etc
the Broadcastify archive for Fire District 1 was time compressed
