google maps has distance measuring tool

on google maps you can easily find the distance between any 2 points -
to the nearest foot - either straight line distance - or it can be
broken into segments - maybe it can be measured along roads or arcs
also

so if anyone needs to find the distance between a structure and a
hydrant - it can be done quickly on Google Maps

The 'procedure / process' is - click on ruler on upper left of map -
click on start point on map - click on next point on map - click on
next point on map - etc

for measuring road distances - we use the 'directions' tool - then
examine the map layer that is created to see the travel time and
distance
