we posted about this maybe 1 year ago - we read that NFIRS was getting
data from only ? 70% ? of FDs - we said that NFIRS was useless based
on this fact
today - as soon as we started to read this article - this idea popped
into mind - NFPA and USFA should use scanner feeds and / or social
media and / or main stream media to improve the accuracy of their USA
fire data
if your data system shows that a certain city has 2 fires per day -
while a scanner feed reveals that the city has 4 fires per day - then
you know that your data system is off by a factor of 2
(something tells me that NFPA has been using main stream media to
modify their results all along - it would be the smart thing to do)
the new data system is called NERIS
