This is a much bigger problem in India, so the solution is to draw
yellow stripes along the tracks to help people judge speed of train
approach as the speed of oncoming objects is difficult for the brain
and eyes to determine.

Reminds me of a call we had many years ago on the PD when SP was still
in business. A woman called and said her husband said he was going to
step in front of a train and commit suicide. Just as the call came
out, a train went by me at high speed with the engineer leaning on the
horn. I knew what was happening. Another unit got there before I did.
He got on the radio and all he said was, "He was successful." And
you're right; there was not a lot left, at least not that wasn't torn
up badly.
