Typically, most news reporters have no real clue as to what a 'first
responder' is
For most reporters, a cop, fireman, or ambulance driver is a 'first responder'
Operationally and administratively, the real first responders are the
sub section of the VFD that has basic medical training and are
dispatched to arrive before an ambulance - and to provide medical care
and scene safety until the ambulance arrives. First responders use
private vehicles and small rescue trucks and marked SUVs and even in
brush trucks and pumpers - typically they all have first aid kits and
2 way radios - some have oxygen and narcan and epipens - some have
defibs
some ambulance services have first responders also - mainly in rural areas
the first aid training may be a 36 hour course called Emergency
Medical Responder (EMR)
FDNY is a little different - they have engine companies trained in CPR
and equipped with defibs - they are called CFR maybe - cardiac first
responder - something like that - but they are too lazy to get trained
as EMTs so screw them - and they are rally SLOW getting to calls -
like 10 minutes on average - which provides a 0 % save rate shirley -
is appalingly bad - screw the rich
