========================

iirc their 2021 annual report said that 95% of their funding comes
from the Fire Levy

so they truly have a nationalized fire service - and no one ever sees
a "tax bill" for it

"Fire and Emergency New Zealand" is the nationwide FD - in 2017 they
merged all the rural and city fire stations - now there is just 1 fire
chief for the entire country - [ except for industrial, forestry, and
military sites - and the forest fire engines seem to be primarily
operated by private forestry firms (which might be equivalent to out
national forests - not sure who funds them actually - they might be
funded by timber sales) ]
