If I told you that 99% of the fire dispatchers in the USA have
absolutely no idea that anyone hears them when they dispatch a call -
would you believe me?
I might be off by 9% - but unless there are some automatic fault
detection schemes - and some automatic call receipt schemes - then my
statement is 100% correct
think about it - the dispatcher has to activate speakers in fire
houses or to activate pagers via radio - 99% of the time there is no
way for the dispatcher to know if anyone has heard the dispatch
message - until the station or unit pushes a button, answers the
phone, or calls in via radio - and this can take anywhere up to 5
minutes
