Great that the fair is back , but was it always on a Sunday? Saturday is the best shopping day for the stores on the avenue, the street fair interferes with that. No Parking, stores are blocked by vendors and rides, senior customers, and customers with disabilities cannot be dropped off or picked up in front of stores, hopefully you can consider moving the Fairs back to Sundays in the future,

We appreciate you concern about the fair. We too debated having it on a Saturday, but it was the only day that we could get that could guarantee us a decent number of vendors and we decided that, because we want the community to know that we are trying to get things back to normal, it was a good idea to go ahead and take the date and see what happens.

As a side note, you should all know that if you’d like your voice heard with the chamber, we do meet on the second Tuesday of the month at Connolly’s Corner. We do the best we can, but for the past several years it’s the same 5 or six people who show up at the meetings and do all the work and make all the decisions. We would welcome and, in fact, if the Chamber is to survive, we need more participation from the merchants and businesses in Maspeth. Come to the meetings and be a part of reinventing Maspeth. We need your help and it is discouraging to keep coming to meetings and seeing only 5 or six (or less) members. The Chamber needs all the voices of the community instead of relying on just a few of us.

I am now on my second stint as President of the chamber. Previously I was president for 7 years. Then Dave Dario took an equally long term, and now I am back. This is not the way it should be, nor is it healthy for our long term prospects. Our next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday April 12th. If you can’t make that meeting then stop by and see us at the Street Fair. We will be at the tent in front of the Maspeth Federal Bank on 69th street.

Thanks. Together we can make the Chamber stronger and help businesses along the avenue.
