I had to reinstall MapInfo last month because my previous desktop crashed (bad motherboard). The past week MapInfo has been glitchy, like it doesn't recognize selected windows. Sometimes I'll have two data tabs open and when I switch from one to the other, the view will change but the tab button doesn't highlight (stays white) and the bottom left corner of the screen, which usually shows total number of records in the highlighted table, is empty. But when I click back to the first window again, the tab highlights and the counts for that table will show in the left corner.

Additionally, if I have a map window open and I run a query, the map window will randomly not get recognized again. Meaning it will be highlighted, no other window is open, but the Map tab in the ribbon is completely greyed out. This is usually triggered after opening a second window (either via query or to view the data in one of the files on the map).

I've never had this happen before and can't figure out what's wrong.

Attached is a screenshot of the map example - it's the only window open, shows in Explorer, is highlighted in the tab, but all map options are greyed and it doesn't recognize any open tables.MapWindowNotRecognized.jpg

Would greatly appreciate any suggestions on the cause/solution.

Thanks,
Christa

Forgot to mention a related issue. If I close the map window, it will remain in Explorer and I can't get rid of it. Normally when I close a map window, it gets removed from Explorer.

You can try to delete this file:
c:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\MapInfo\MapInfo\Professional\2300\MapInfoPro.DockingState.xml

And MapInfoPro.RibbonState.EN.xml in the same folder.

That should restore windows to a default state.
