Hi Tuesday Peddlers.

This week we have an exciting new route to try out.I haven’t measure it but I believe it’s very doable for the Tuesday crowd.

Start at Turramurra at 9:30 am from the café on the west side of the station. Brown’s Water Hole, Vimiera Rd, cross Epping Road and then first right onto Pembroke Road. Follow all the way through to Epping Station. Thereafter we will take ‘Wendy’s’ route through to Carlingford. (Bridge St, Wyralla Ave, Ryde St, Willoughby St, Tomah St, Marsden Rd, Penant Hills Rd, and finally Lloyd Av down to the cycle track). From there a glorious downhill ride all the way to the bridge over the Parramatta River and on to Café 91, our usual lunch spot (cnr Smith and Phillip). After lunch back along the river to Meadowbank and a train or ferry (3 per hour) home.

At 38 past the hour there is a ferry from Parramatta, but only 1 an hour. It takes 90 mins to Circular Quay but only 30 mins to Meadowbank where you could change to a train if that works better.

If we wanted to be really adventurist, we could take the recently opened Parramatta to Carlingford light rail back up the hill to Carlingford. We would then need to ride (15 minutes according to Google) back to Epping to get a train home.

Let me know.

Tom,

That’s a very good route you’ve worked out. I’ll be a starter.

Okay … not looking the best but I think doable. The radar seems to be projecting it will miss us  and so long as we get home mid afternoon it should be dry enough. If it’s horrible in Turramurra we can call it quits after coffee and go home.

It’s ON

That was great fun! We’ll get the Thursday mob to do it next time. Got home without any rain.

A relatively short ride, 20km from Turramurra to Parramatta which we completed in 77 minutes of actual cycling and my new replacement watch measured 208 m of climbing compared with the smart phone measurement of 213 m. Close enough.

While we took the new tram back to Carlingford I looked out of the window and wondered if we might ever cycle back. It seemed to get steeper and steeper as we went so I’m glad we didn’t try it this time.

Thanks Tom.

It was a great ride with the best downhill beside the Carlingford Light Rail!
