Hey y’all,

First, happy holidays!

Second: What is up with the ants?

Just yesterday, one of our neighbors emailed me to describe a weird sudden encounter with a lot of little tiny ants, around the baseboards near their sliding glass door.

Yesterday evening, we turned the lights on after watching a movie and I glanced at the floor near our sliding glass door and: ANTS! What? Same deal: traveling along the baseboards to/from the area where our glass door is.

I don’t see a ton of them on the outside of the building, though. I suspect they’re traveling inside the building from floor to floor.

So, two (related) questions:

  • who else is seeing a sudden occurrence of ants just within the past couple of days?
  • has anyone had an ant problem earlier than this week, and did something about it (professional or non-professional pesticide application, say?)

This is a good opportunity to mention a thing that we don’t talk about often: In an apartment building like ours, we can’t/shouldn’t do single-unit bug treatment, because they’ll just migrate, so if you’re having a problem with insects, please report it to our management company.

Thanks,

Happy holidays as well!
I just checked my sliding glass door area and I don’t see any ants plus I haven’t seen any anywhere else.
I don’t open my slider often so maybe they’re coming in from the outside. We should probably have our bug guy spray the exterior for ants and see if that helps!

2 cents...

Ants & Gnats were a problem every summer (kitchen window.) Since the reconstruction, this past summer there were none.

Happy New Year everyone!

Hi there,

A couple of weeks ago, I did have a sudden appearance of a bunch of small ants coming in under my kitchen window although the window was closed. They were definitely coming from outside (E Seminary side). There are some cracks under the window resulting from the work on the building last year, and it looked like that was where the ants were coming through. They would show up in the late afternoon and early evening, as the temperature dropped to well below freezing. I put a small ant trap on the windowsill and it has subsided. Still the very occasional ant, but nothing like it was a couple of weeks ago.
