Some of the winter ducks arrived in big numbers about a week ago - Bufflehead and Long-tailed Ducks - and we’re watching for Red-breasted Mergansers and Common Goldeneye.  Over 200 Black Ducks use the upper part of the bay during low tide. Bonaparte’s Gulls are lingering, although we’ve seen them here all winter occasionally.  We’re also keeping our spotting scopes on the mudflats as last year a flock of 200+ Semipalmated Sandpipers  arrived about this time.  We’re checking New Brunswick eBird coastal hotspots for early warnings about autumn flights of shorebirds!!

Today 13 immature Red-winged Blackbirds visited our feeder station- 3 males and 10 females. Common Grackles have been streaming through for the past week. Lots of Dark-eyed Juncos still hanging around along the roadsides.
