Evening grosbeak in Hallowell today

We had a splendid female Evening grosbeak at our bird bath today.

First one we have seen since we moved into this house 27 years ago.

It got a few sips in, but a very aggressive male robin attacked it repeatedly and it flew off.

The robin wanted to take a bath all by itself...and it did.

It would help if people posted their location, especially if they are reporting something they feel is historically significant.

Hi there,

Evening grosbeaks are declining in the northeast, sadly, but I wouldn't say our sighting was historic.

This irruptive species usually travels in flocks, so if there is one in the area there may/should be more.

I noted it was seen in Hallowell, but we have no feeders up and the bird did not linger, so it didn't seem that our address would be helpful.

This posting was a reminder to keep one's eyes open for these less commonly seen visitors.
