Turning right onto York Street from the bridge, I saw a dead, run-over bird on the road.  Could not pull over.  At first I thought it was a hawk who made a mistake.

But now I am thinking the head, the colors, and the more or less horizontal striping on the breast argue for a Peregrine falcon.  Very sad, if so.  Don't know if the pair that live at the bridge have any offspring?

I just stopped to check for the bird, it’s not there. If anyone from the group retrieved it, I’d be interested to know if it was banded, as would the state peregrine researchers. I don’t believe the bridge peregrines fledged a chick last year, but they should be on eggs this year soon if not already.
