Finding 2, maybe 3, white-throated sparrows in the yard after dinner was a surprise. I think of them as October arrivals, or at least the last days of September. It's good to see them, even though I'm not quite ready for fall.

Also flushed a woodcock this evening. Maybe the same one that didn't flush a few days ago, giving me a chance to watch it forage in full daylight for several minutes.

Yesterday was better for migrants, with parula, Wilson's, redstarts (maybe local), blue-headed and red-eyed vireos, and at least a couple that got away. I keep looking at the sky for hawks on the move and am not being rewarded yet. When's everyone going to the mountaintops?

The last couple days I’ve had a pretty good movement of 20-30 White-throated Sparrows through my yard as well, along with molting juvenile American Robins
