Hi All,

The picture was taken 20 Feb. at Mattamuskeet NWR in North Carolina while we are birding our way back to Maine.  The bird in the middle is my question.  Is it a hybrid or  what?

It's something with American Wigeon in it. It could be 100% Wigeon just with some anomalous coloring, or it could be a hybrid of some sort. What's throwing me off is that little bit of white on the collar.

It looks fine for an American Wigeon--my interpretation of that white collar is that its part of a wave of water.  It appears to be connected more to the water than a feature  on the bird.
