- Shorebirds at Flat Bay, Harrington - 1 Update
Merle and Anne Archie <ravens...@gmail.com>: Aug 22 08:08PM -0400
The southbound shorebird migration has intensified in the past 3 days with
thousands of Semipalmated Sandpipers coming through. The numbers of
Black-bellied Plover and Semipalmated Plover are increasing and they will
really pick up in number in the next week. At this evening's low tide (
such excellent light conditions!) we observed 9 species of shorebird:
Semipalmated Sandpiper, Semipalmated Plover, Black-bellied Plover,
Short-billed Dowitcher, Lesser and Greater Yellowlegs, Ruddy Turnstone,
Spotted Sandpiper and Whimbrel(5).
The highest daily Whimbrel count this past month was 62.
Anne Archie, Harrington
