to Maine birds

Now you see them. Now you don't.

Last night was clear, fairly warm, with light wind and a nearly full moon. Virtually all of the birds that were here over the past few days departed.

Yesterday: hundreds of SPARROWS and JUNCOS with over 50 feeding on the patio at times; 10 and more FLICKERS on the lawn at once, 2, 3 & more feeding right outside my kitchen window and dozens roosting on our buildings at night; SAPSUCKERS tapping on the windows; lots of ROBINS terrorizing the earth worms; a few BLACKBIRDS & GRACKLES; a couple  MOURNING DOVES.

Today: 2 Sparrows & no Juncos on the patio and very few on the lawn or elsewhere; only 5 Flickers seen all morning; no Sapsuckers seen; only 1 Robin foraging at the edge of the lawn; no Blackbirds, Grackles or Doves.

On the positive side: there is a notable increase in HERMIT THRUSHES with several observed foraging under the boardwalks.
