Aggressive sparrow

We have bluebirds nesting in a birdhouse by the pond at our house. Recently a sparrow has taken a stance on the roof of the birdhouse and chases off the bluebird parents when they come to tend the babies inside. We haven’t noticed the sparrow approaching the entry to the nest. It just sits on the roof.

I wonder if you had replied to your post? We have friends with a Purple Martin house and House Sparrows forcé their way in and I have read they have even taken Martin chicks out of the nest. Is your sparrow still there? Marianne Taylor, Skowhegan

Marianne, I did receive one other reply with much the same information. The bluebirds seem to have fledged so the sparrow problem is gone for now. It was hard to watch. Thank you for responding.
