Thanks to Glenn and Bob Duchesne about their crow thread in recent days.

As someone who is frequently monitoring a winter crow roost in Lawrence MA which this year is very large and may contain many northern Maine and eastern Canadian American Crows, I would appreciate learning of the status of winter crow roosts in Maine this winter.

Possibly, the two big early snow storms in November and December in 2020 propelled American Crows southward. We counted 25,000 during the Andover CBC count on December 19th. Our previous high was in 2017 at 27,000.

For the 2020 Augusta CBC, did you get a count of American Crows?

What other areas of Maine are seeing winter crow roosts?

Any and all help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Dana Duxbury-Fox

Hello,
This is a frequent crow roost just off I295 Exit 4, which is a southbound only exit. Go past the oil tanks and they roost in the trees bordering and inside the cemetery. It’s the far end of Cavalry Cemetery which is accessible from Broadway near Cash Corner in South Portland.
I got these quick pics while parking at the stop sign (43.6356, -70.2903) when no cars were coming. It’s a busy area with large tanker trucks and salt trucks when the freighters are unloading so be careful.
Depending on the night I’d estimate there are easily 1,000+ birds there squawking it up. Some nights they are across the street or further back in the cemetery.
Cheers!
-Pete

I don't know where they were heading but a flock of at least 60 crows were flying eastward, towards the coastline, at dusk in Hulls Cove last Monday.

Hi Dana,

The crows roosted outside the circle (or at least outside of where someone could find them) on the Augusta CBC count day, so no roost count for 2020.
