Hi all,

I am new here. I am so heartbroken, this is my first year beekeeping and I guess I got stung too many times and the last sting gave me a pretty bad allergic reaction (throat tightening, full body swelling, etc.), so I think I developed a bee allergy. (I did one formic pro treatment already and when I was taking the strips out they were pretty angry. I got one sting through the face net of my suit and that's all it took). I can't get in with an allergist until next year, so I am now terrified to get anywhere near my beehive. The winter is upon us and something is happening with my hive as they are all crowding outside, but I can't go inspect it.

I was wondering if you had any advice or if anyone could help me prepare them for the winter or inspect the hive so they aren't doomed while I figure out what to do.

I just had a baby so unfortunately I can't attend the next meeting in person, so just desperately reaching out for help here.

I am in Cross Plains.

Thank you in advance!
Mila

See if you can get an appt with a different doctor with more immediate openings.
That said, how did the bee get in? Do you have a jacket or suit, or just the hood?
I do work in cross plains, so I may be able to help you after my work hours if needed.

Hi John - it actually didn't get IN even. My chin was against the hood net when I was leaning forward and it attacked me in the chin in that brief moment. I was fully suited otherwise even with extra thick layers under, the bees were just extra aggressive that day after the pro formic treatment probably, they were in full angry attack mode! They have actually been pretty angry ever since so I am just wondering if something is going on with the hive, but I can't inspect it.

I would love some help and I am at home all day with the baby, so super flexible timing wise!

I'd like to help Mila by inspecting her hive.  If I could team up with a more experienced beekeeper, that would be perfect.

John,

I'm pretty flexible.  Let me know if you'd like to team up.

This being said - I always wear a baseball hat when working the bees.
This means that the face net is kept away from my face by the visor.
Just a good practice to follow.
Otherwise, the face net becomes less than useful at times.

Also, preventively take Benadryl IF the allergy is a concern and you still must be working your bees (best to avoid it all together in this case).
