Dear All,

You may have noted over the weekend, that Debian have officially released Buster as Debian 10.

We have been producing packages for Buster for some while, albeit unadvertised to allow maximum time to iron out any problems.

Should you wish to use Buster, it should now be supported and work.
The documentation will be updated in due course.

There is however no compelling reason to use Buster at this time and for a lot of people it will not be an option until armhf SD images start to be produced using it.
Jessie is LTS until June 2020.
Stretch will be LTS until at least June 2022

It is worth noting that the package availability for Buster has some anomalies, some packages are just not available, even though
they appear in sid, others have been deprecated or are showing signs they may be deprecated at some point.

(eg. Recently I had to 'back-port' the sid packages for libck into our repo for Buster, because Debian had not done this)

This is most likely to manifest first with the legacy linuxcnc GUIs, especially anything glade2, gnome2 and gtk2 dependent.
gmoccapy does not work with Buster because of python-vte not having been back-ported from sid to Buster yet.
There were some other issues with functions deprecated between python-gst0.1 and python-gst1-0 which led to audio functions being disabled in gmoccapy in Stretch and above.

As ever, if your current install isn't broken, don't fix it!

regards

Until I see or get presented any reasons to gear up for a
mksocfpga_bustgerxxx_sd.img build release im in no hurry with that.
The last image seemed to turn out well indeed...

It also makes it easier to iron out bugs in the distribution process when the building is done due to a feature request,
as testers then are readily available ... :-)

Best wishes
Michael B.
