Hello,

A glimpse into how the sausage is made.  We’ve undergone a few modifications in response to the existing NPS policies that were never really enforced with Greenbelt till recently.  We modified, there was a little give and take, and for the most part, the series benefitted from the changes.

One policy though.  The weather call 24 hours in advance leaves us locked in for the NPS staffing charges without having a clear picture of the Wednesday weather.  This has led to us being a bit on the conservative side.  We didn’t have the cash reserves to make too many missed go no-go calls.  We would like to make the call by early afternoon day of, so we don’t have a repeat of last week when thunderstorms were in the forecast on Tuesday and sun was shining on the park on Wednesday.

Just yesterday, I got the invoice for NPS staffing.  At approximately $2,500 per race, we need to pivot from a bit conservative to extremely cautious.

After two or three completely independent conversations at the park yesterday, an idea of sorts that has snowballed just a bit.

So, what do you all think about us holding onto the registration funds if we need to cancel day of?

Also floated was setting up a once-a-year team or individual donation

And does anyone have a connection that could lead to a big sponsorship to offset the NPS costs?

Everything is on the table with the overarching goal of long-term viability for the series.

Completely open to discussion.  All input welcome.

Great stuff last night! Lots of positive vibes.

Equip Racing completely supports you all holding onto the registration funds if needed to cancel day of, or whatever else ensures the health of this great series.

Not authorized to speak on behalf of my team, so personally I support a non-refund policy.  A question on consequences, I'd assume that may lead to racers being more cautious in when they register.  Would there be downstream effects to later registrations or fewer advance registrations?

I support the registration funds being kept if we have to cancel the day of, however, this is likely to have a knock-on effect of having people withhold registration.

Perhaps a slightly different approach is needed going forward...A subscription to the race series can be offered at the beginning of the season...All races under a moderate price...all funds are kept. Then a per-race rego with a steeper price for those who won't/cant commit? For those who can only make it to one race, the cost is still lower than for subscribers. For those who want to race 3+ races, there's a benefit. Maybe that leaves Route 1 in a better position to have operating funds that cover cancellation days.

Is there an option people can select for "race cancelation insurance"?

Long story short. Everyone needs to stop being cheap and fork up $ if they want to go in circles on Wednesday. Throw a yard sale, sell cookies, play guitar on the corner of the street. Standing with your shoulders shrugged or expecting things to happen with your hand held out doesn’t help the situation. Be the scene you want to be see!

Also don’t forget home training… clean up after yourselves or they will kick this out of GB faster than the 27 dudes racing for Red Shift bringing back PJ after a silly attack from the gun… shots fired.

Skinny tire racing is dumb but I’m still wondering where can I donate my $50 to GB? You should be too.

😀
