Looking for a 3-D printer to use, willing to pay

Hi everyone,

I'm currently trying to build a small wind tunnel at home right now and I want to 3D print a lot of the different parts for it. This is for a personal project of mine, and I plan to use the wind tunnel to do some experimenting on different fins/nosecones for rockets. I am willing to pay money to borrow the printers, and I can send my current CADs for my wind tunnel to those who wish to see it before agreeing.

Hi Alex,

Your wind tunnel project sounds interesting -- I might be able to help.  I happen to have an Elegoo OrangeStorm Giga, which has an 80cm square by 1 meter tall build volume.  I can print your wind tunnel parts, maybe as a single piece or just a few pieces, surely less pieces than if you were splitting it up to print the pieces on a tabletop printer.

Attached is a photo of one of my first prints -- an 8" by 32" nosecone.  With a 1mm nozzle, .24mm layer height, 1 wall layer inside and out, 5mm overall thickness, and 12 percent Gyroid infill, this part came out to about 1-1/2 kilos of filament, and it took about 14 hours to print, in glass-fiber PETG.  

The printer is definitely not portable 😂 but I can slice and run your prints for you.  I'm located in Lafayette, btw.  

While we're at it, if anyone out there is interested in custom nose cones and fin cans for big stuff, let's chat!  Soon I'll be printing a prototype 8" boat tail fin can to match this nosecone.

Why the need for 'strength' in the wind tunnel?   The fan blade?  I've printed and tested aircraft bladed using PLA with success.

 

Is there a 3D model out there people are using or is this all 'original' designs?

probably testing for fast speeds, especially for higher power rockets and active control.

I'm actually working on a a canard control algorithm and im using a 7500 CFM axial blower choked from 20" to a 12" octagon. Thats gonna give me an easy 90-100 mph, and PLA would not survive the long test section and plenum box I'm attaching. It could theoretically survive if I made the choke sections as well, but just to be safe I'm using ASA.

If there is a 3D model out there, I guess I didn't find it. I also think it would be more fun to design my own wind tunnel.

Looks like you've gotten a lot of responses already, but I just got a Bambu Labs A1 and I don't mind running some prints for you. As long as the parts for your wind tunnel aren't that huge, I'm more than happy to run some prints for you free of charge. If you do design a wind tunnel that is suitable for testing model rockets, you might consider publishing your work.  I'm not aware of any currently.
