One thing that I would suggest (and I am sure Adam Cameron will back me up so watch out!) is that any coding questions should be sent over to Stack Exchange, where I am just waiting for the Lucee category to appear! :)

Coding questions as in how to code against Luceee, or how to write the code that IS Lucee?

Why? What is a coding question? If I'm having difficulty getting the cfschedule tag to work as I expect, is that a coding question? If I suspect a bug and write a question here seeking clarification, is that a coding question? It seems very open to opinion, hence I'm not sure it's a useful, and may be a potentially divisive distinction to make. I may do my best to consider whether the question I'm asking is related to code or not, and still get it wrong in someone's opinion.

Sorry Mark, I really don't get your suggestion. Most questions I might ask would be related to code in some way or other. I'd prefer people feel free to discuss anything related to Lucee here rather than censor their questions and contributions because they think it might be related to code. All it takes is a few sharp responses to shut nearly everyone up, especially newcomers.

I learn stuff from others' questions and answers, and would prefer the flow of information was not censored to questions not related to code. If I'm not interested, I can always ignore the thread, either as a potential responder or learner.

The main reason why is to be more inclusive. See all the questions from the community (larger community I guess?) over at stack overflow that are not getting answered:

Answering questions there and posting question there opens up Lucee to a larger audience rather than a smaller one when it is all kept in the Google Groups.

I wouldn’t do a harsh response to a user, but if a question has a specific answer (rather than a “it depends”) it would be good to send it to stack overflow. I totally agree that discussions and discourse (enough! -ed) is always welcome.

Now do you get my suggestion?

(at the moment there are no questions tagged with Lucee :( http://stackoverflow.com/questions/tagged/lucee

Regards

Stack overflow is a great place to ask questions, and get answers.  A mailing list is also a great place to ask questions and get answers, but its a "closed" community.  I think it would be very hard to police the mailing list to get people to post general lucee questions to stack overflow instead of going direct to the mailing list.

@nando to be more specific if you have a question that can be phrased as "how do I ... " then it should go to stack overflow.  But then the question is why should you go to two places to get answers when one will do?

Cheers,

Gary

Actually no. There's hardly any people who use even Railo participating on Stack Overflow. When ppl there ask Railo-specific questions, I directed them to the Railo Google Group. I'll be doing the same for Lucee.

One does not need any special permissions to create a tag (oh, one probably needs a certain number of "points" to do it, but I don't think it's many).
