Hi All,

I tried to start a new topic by email, by sending it to lu...@googlegroups.com however I got the response from Google's server that it didn't work, as follows:

We're writing to let you know that the group you tried to contact (lucee) may not exist, or you may not have permission to post messages to the group. A few more details on why you weren't able to post:

 * You might have spelled or formatted the group name incorrectly.
 * The owner of the group may have removed this group.
 * You may need to join the group before receiving permission to post.
 * This group may not be open to posting.

If you have questions related to this or any other Google Group, visit the Help Center at http://groups.google.com/support/.

Maybe a setting for the group needs changing.

Also the emails from the group are coming from the posters email address, so when hitting reply in my mail client the emails are going back to the sender instead of the group, again I assume it is a setting that needs changing.

Kind regards,

Andrew.

Yes, that's a group setting, and it should be changed immediately, it's super confusing and destructive to the communal train of thought otherwise.

It's in group > Manage > Settings > Email > Post replies, change it to 'To the entire group'. (I manage another google group, been there done that.)

I just tried creating a new thread via email, it appears to have worked, I see it in email and in the group's web UI.

And when I replied to this email thread, the default is now the group, not me, so maybe someone jumped on fixing that setting already ?

The new message appears to be working ok now, but the new messages for me are still coming from the posts email address instead of the group.

Kind regards,

Andrew

I hadn't noticed that previously, but I can confirm that I am seeing the same behavior. That is, replying to a post goes to the sender rather than the list.

I think Micah just changed that setting. It's slightly unclear from here (gmail on the wbe), but it looks like this reply is going to go to the group, or rather it looks CC'd to the group, which is odd, don't who the main addressee is, and I'm not aware of a setting to cause that behavior, unless 'Users decide where theyir replies are sent' does that these days. I'll see in a second where this *actually* goes...

Basically the reply-to should be to the group which it isn’t at the moment. Odd default for the group to had but once changed we are golden.

Actually, sorry, my last reply from via the group UI, not email. This reply, which IS via email, was automatically addressed to the group, so it appears that config change is working, at least from here.

Now it should work, I hope this mailing list desaster ends with this ;-)
Sorry for all that mess!

Thanks for the info, pretty much what I expected, including what parts you can't talk about. One thing I had realize that I think you said is that you were part of the group that owned the Railo name. I got the impression that an outside force had bought it out, leading to the present situation.

Anyway, onward!

So I try to answer your question as far as I can go, but please also not quote me in any way ...

Great, thanks.

While I'm at it, thanks so much for everything you've done with Railo, and in advance for the same with Lucee. Quality work, obviously super valuable to the CFML community.
Thanks a lot!

If you don't mind my asking (privately), I have so many questions about what happened inside Railo. What did the people who bought the Railo company plan to do with it?
Let me put this way, we bought the copyright to the Railo id not for a stack of money, we got nothing out of this deal.
No, we did this to ensure the future of Railo by putting the weight of the project to more shoulders. Not turned out as excpeted!
Having a contract in place is a good thing, but having the money to back it up is even better!

Who are they?
TRC is owned by 3 companies
- Railo Technologies (former owner of the IP)
- Blueriver
- 4FTi (comprised by 4 companies: Prisma IT (Netherlands), Gruppo Tesi (Italy), Tagnile (Finland), Aurelien Delusiere (France))

Just to make one thing clear, Blueriver is a good friend of us, that has our full trust!

What did they do or not do that was so problematic that Lucee had to happen?

i cannot answer that question sorry, but believe me abdon the Railo project was not a easy decision for us!

If they planned for it to be a commercial venture, they've clearly shot themselves in the foot, actually more like in the face :).
People have different opinion based on a different view of the world!

Anyway, ignore all that if you think its' inappropriate, just curious about how the world works...
Believe me, i learned a lot about the world the last 12 month that is not related with CFML ;-)

Best of luck in the new world!
ATM, i'm extremely excited because i see a bright future for Lucee and that new world!

I don't know what everyone else is using, but for me Thunderbird has been the most efficient way to view the mail list. All this, in one compact space, nicely threaded, viewable and navigatable.

Isn't that default OS X?

That's just the Default on Mac OSX. I'm still on Snow Leopard LOL. yes, I'm behind.
Thunderbird has been great for so many years. I don't know why everyone is using it.
And, so much easier to navigate than the Discourse. (Sorry, I had to get my dig in also)

Rob,

Yeah, I've been using Thunderbird for years too.  I just saw the alternate row coloring and wish I had that on Windows.  Don't see an option to turn that on in the Thunderbird options, so I thought it might be a theme thing.  Looks like it might just be an OSX "feature".
