Hello all,

I know this has been investigated in the past (with Railo and OpenBD) but has anybody here got Lucee up and running on GAE successfully? Google search is not being my friend.

I understand the issues (I use GAE for other apps) but it does seem like the ideal scaling environment for CFML and it'd be quite a boon to Lucee's perceived public image if this were viable.

TIA!

For those of us unaware of the issues with CFML engines on GAE, what are they? Interested to know.

the main issue, i believe, is that there's no write access to the file system. so no ability to create/write temp files, logs, etc.

Google has virtual machine hosting in beta right now, this may be resolved by running on a VM. I haven’t looked at it in detail yet, though.

long out of beta, we've been running several railo/lucee VM's for some time and it works very well. VM auto-scaling is in beta, but that's very different to GAE.

oh my mistake, i guess you mean the App Engine Managed VM beta, which I wasn't aware. Compute Engine VM vs App Engine VM... confusing!

I shall investigate further, thanks.

I was heavily involved with the Open BD project and know this was a significant effort for these guys to get it working which then I believe got binned. As alluded to by others the environment is very restrictive.

I can safely say from LAS that it is very unlikely that there will be any effort targeting GAE especially given the general drive towards containerisation by all the big players around docker.

Thanks

Alex
