Shoot!

Daily user of Chromecast (Ultra) here, and Loxone ofc.
What is your idea of what this plugin should/could do?

What does the Query Status command return?

Greets.

Hi Bartel,
as per wiki https://www.loxwiki.eu/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=39355471 , you can play a stream (internet radios), stop it, change volume. If you can host your own audio files, you can play those too, so it could be perhaps used even as an Loxone alert / feedback mechanism (upload message "You haven't closed all your windows!" in MP3 format somewhere (maybe I could add a mini web server to the plugin as well, in order to minimize the dependencies) and then send PLAY http://192.168.x.x/windows_not_closed.mp3 to hear it when leaving the house, etc).

I'm personally using it with Chromecast Audio to control the volume and to stop it. As a source, I'm primarily casting Google Music All Access from my Android phone, though. I'm also experimenting with online radios, nice sample to try: http://198.58.98.83:8258/stream
I don't have video Chromecast, I could add URL command for you to experiment with. I don't know what it does and what's the difference to PLAY, I know it's chromecast tv only.

Status doesn't give you much, mainly the application casting:

Connecting to 192.168.1.51:8009...
Connected
No applications running
Volume: 0.14

=

Connecting to 192.168.1.51:8009...
Connected
[Google Play Music] Google Play Music
Volume: 0.25

If you find it useful, you can parse it.

Cheers,

Does it work with Google homes as the cast targets? That would make it really useful for TTS.

Hi,

This is interesting. We have a Chromecast for audio in the house but... it would be very handy to be able to have it play doorbell sounds (pausing/resuming any current playback if possible) and other messages (eg. pre-rendered audio snippets for various warnings/information messages).

There is actually an RPi in our system that is used as a Z-Wave gateway and I have been playing with the node-castv2-client to try and get some Chromecast control.

It's easy enough to change volume, stop and start new playback, but I'm stumped as to how to pause any existing playback started by another device. Would be keen to hear how the pause/resume is implemented in your plugin at the very least.

Cheers,

Robin

Hello Robin,
it is possible to play your custom sounds, if you can host them anywhere (even on Raspberry). It is not possible to interrupt current cast to play your message and then resume the original in my humble opinion. Basically what you say about node-castv2-client is valid for my LoxBerry plugin. You can easily change volume, stop and or start new playback (defined by URL). Although there is a function Pause, it doesn't work the way I would expect it - ie. to have a resume. I don't see any difference between Pause and Stop right now. I'm relying on Cast GO library, I have asked the author as well the same question. I have checked the API in the meantime and haven't found it. Yet, Google Music in browser is able to pause/resume any (even foreign, not just Google Music) casts. So there must be a way...

Regards,
Aleš
