AC Control Air

Just looking at the Config update to 14.2.6.16 and noticed the extensive new set if AC units supported that hasn't been mentioned here at all:

Available from August. Generally seems geared to integrated AC head units e.g. pushing a room target temperature to the unit, rather than allowing use of Loxone's own room temperature sensor and have finer grained control of the coil temperature and fan speed to tune and modulate the heat/cool output from within Loxone Config.

The device form factor is the same as the recent Hörmann Air device with the physical accommodation for 24V and Tree connections on the base, yet these devices are all Air only, which is frustrating for anyone like me that has a loathing of using RF interfacing when a wired option would be possible. But seems this is the way everything is going.

(If this is a new device platform they're using, I'm surprised they don't just build Tree and Air into every device, as halving the the amount of stock distributors need to hold, and doubling volumes of each SKU would surely pay off the slight BOM increase, and increase install time flexibility too. /shrug)

Be interested to hear how ppl get on with these as they become available.

I'm tempted to order the Hörmann device, even though I already have the HCP Adaptor in a box somewhere, just for simplicity or using a Loxone device (and associated config) vis having to use various inputs/outputs.  But, like you probably, I don't currently have an air extension anywhere in the house, so I'd need to get one of these and home the signal reaches the garage.. which I'm not too keen on.  Shame there isn't a tree version.

I really cannot see a use or good case for these devices, their functionality and control is so limited that I’m not sure why they’d get spec’d, especially when far superior bidirectional products CoolMasterNet exist.

The number of times I have had call outs to holiday rentals, as an electrician, and the AC is on full blast and the windows are open. Often the AC is set to 18ºC so the compressor is basically working all the time. If you could just have a switch for AC on or off, and set it to 24ºC that would be great, and as the temperature gets nearer to the set temp the fan speed could then be reduced.  Another for use case would be for Loxone to decide if its heating or cooling that's needed. 

 Mind you there is a device called the Air-Con Monitor which for the advanced model is 50 pounds. So you could control 4 AC units and its still cheaper than one Loxone module, plus you could link them up to a relay in Loxone to switch the ACs off. 

I think the cost needs to come down. As an example a Fujitsu ASY35UI-KP 3000 AC unit costs about 550 euros here in Spain plus installation add the cost of an AC air module which is 266 euros (including VAT) thats  almost half the price of the AC. So total price is now  816 euros, before install (will need an AC installer then someone to install and configure the Loxone module) just so you can have an AC unit that Loxone can talk to.

Thanks for this, I think you cut right to the point I was thinking of too.  Thanks also for the reminder of CoolAutomation products, I'd seen these a while ago but stalled at the first hurdle of them not publishing clear device compatibility charts. I've sent a query which was redirected to their UK distributor, but not follow up so far.

This is a minefield. Using my current project as a case study, we are considering Mitsubishi  MXZ-4F72/ SEZ-M35DA2-TH split system:

The CoolMaster requires connection to M1 & M2 terminals on the outdoor unit, but the MXZ-4F72 has S1,S2,S3 terminals, not M1/M2.

The Loxone AC Control requires connection connection to CN105 on each indoor unit, but the SEZ-M35DA2-TH has a CN90, not CN105.

From a systems design view, a single wired connection to the outdoor unit does seem superior in every way to a wireless connection to each indoor unit. If going the latter route, I'd be inclined to DIY it with ESPHome :-)

Hi Folks,

Have you guys checked out Airzone Aidoo? They are circa £100 per device and the Aidoo has Modbus whilst the Aidoo Pro also features a local API. We use them on all our Loxone installs to date and they haven't missed a beat. Happy to share templates for integration if you pursue this route or answer any questions.  I reviewed the global market for aircon integration devices for some time before settling on these for our installs. We tried them in our office and showroom first and haven't looked back.

Whilst I would also rather have wired over wireless, Loxone do offer a Tree to Air bridge which means that as long as you've got a Tree cable near your AC unit, you wouldn't have to worry about the quality of the wireless connectivity.

More items will come to the market (Netatmo is already in this segment) doing the same with much lower price.

At least Shelly plays  with Loxone. So fingers crossed they do do some sort of AC control
