We installed Webpass in our unit the other day but have since found an additional phone jack we would rather use. However the second jack is smaller and the Webpass support gave us the information below:

"No, that would mean that the smaller ones are RJ-11 lines, or phone lines. We need to use RJ-45, or ethernet lines to provide service. I would recommend reaching out to your building property manager to find out if there is additional ethernet wiring where those RJ-11 ports are"

Might be a long shot, but we know a lot of people use Webpass in the building. Has anyone had experience with this? We would really appreciate any help. Thanks!

I can help with this!
I have since moved out of the building, but I figured this out a little while ago and wish i knew about it a long time ago.

The difference between those two types (RJ-45 and RJ-11) are the number of copper wires that run inside it. RJ-11 is 6 wires, RJ-45 is 8.
In most modern buildings (20ish years maybe?) the telephone wires are usually made with the 8 connectors and only at the outlet do they convert to a 6 wire connector.

In my unit, there were cables for the phones that all connected in the furnace closet. I didn't realize these could have been used to deliver Internet by using the new connectors.
I don't know if your cables have all 8 pins however but I think they probably do.
This means that you can likely swap out the outlet. I did this exact thing in my current home and use it to get 1000 Mbps.

I used an AMPCOM toolless jack found here:

I also needed two more tools to get it done:

I don't live in Loganview anymore, but I have been meaning to run over there for an errand so I could stop by to loan you the tools this weekend if you want to borrow them.

Anyone else in the building get 1000 mbps? I'm only getting 100 mbps.

If you never performed a internet speed test, you can go to Speedtest.net

We only get about 100 mbps using webpass wifi.  I haven’t tested the wired speed.

We get 580 mbps with Webpass, that's wifi and wired. It's possible your router could be the problem.

You definitely need to make sure your personal hardware is up to snuff, like Charlotte said.

My router/access point can only do 500 down, so that’s all I get.

A system to get those speeds is around 400-500, in my experience, but it might be worth it.
