NOTES ON LLSC SUMMARY ACCOUNTS 2022
The balance at the start of the year was low due to a loan to the Forestry account for felling preparatory work in the previous year.
The largest expenditure in the year was for donations of £500 to each of 8 mountain rescue teams in areas we fly frequently. This was then recovered from the Forestry account.
The balance at the year end was healthy at £5200 so the Committee decided to roll over membership from 2022 to 2023. The lost revenue from membership fees is £1460.
I request the meeting to agree the accounts for 2022.

Kevin Mcgrath report (sites officer)
Little galla site for wind farm in progress
Cama
Acknowledged work done by Alistair B and Ben J for Edi airspace LOA
Glasgow LOA due for renewal, procedure in progress.
Web cam discontinued for talker but enquiries in progress.
Kevin added if we had a web camp accessible on the web site, it would get more people looking on the web site.
Rob from wingbeat also looking at web cam Fred added.
Talker at Broughton going well. No corrective action required.
Anoch mor now LLSC site. Site guide being considered for renewal with Mikes help?
Wind socks considered for Anoch mor / Glen Coe
Fred suggested more than one wind sock to be added.
Signs made for gate at Tinto
Mike suggested a new gate post be installed at Tinto and perhaps a “hold open” post for gate at Tinto.
Changes at Fairlie with new telegram group for coordinating LOA and procedure being reviewed.
A question was asked on the chat if there is a procedure to join the telegram group?
Previously, Anyone could add anyone. Kevin is working on a new procedure. Messages on top of telegram group saying a briefing is required prior to flight.
Fred suggested “designated person” to brief campsies
Ben suggested if the campsies should be an SHPF site? Alistair B added it was the LOA which governs who runs the site. Currently it is the LLSC who manage the LOA. Further detail to be updated on the LLSC web site.
Web site - Mark Bradley
Add web cams to web site map
Maintenance to site may cause disruption in 3 - 4 weeks time
Received positive feedback on the website.
Kevin added we should encourage more folk to post flight reports onto the web site.
Mark added David T used to write trip reports and Mark
Linda commented could David T used to run NPG but no more. Could this happen again and could LLSC fund this?
Linda W commented on communication in NPG low. Linda and any new pilots were encouraged to post on telegram and join experienced pilots / coaches on flyable days. Also to post if you think the day has potential. Some folk go flying without posting intentions.
Alistair added communication in the last few years was low due to covid
Ben added Telegram is good because more people use and comment on telegram than other communication platforms.
Linda added she heard New Pilots found some pilots have found many people don't post their plans and yet turn up at the hill.
Fred added he sometimes changes his site choice enroute and so it can be hard to decide site choice.
Mike agreed it's tough to call site choice with our sport.
Ben, Fred and Kevin encourage new pilots to engage with the club via telegram and others will respond. Don’t be shy, if you think it's a good day but you are not sure, just reach out.
Chief Coach post meeting notes: Fred Robinson
My apologies for leaving the meeting early. I’m on holiday in Spain.
The problem of newer or less experienced pilots finding their way to the best flying sites on
any particular day is well understood. Issues, as always, are that pilots often change their
minds en-route or are concerned they are going to fly somewhere challenging. Posting
where we are going is encouraged even if caveats apply included!
SHPF reported their arrangement of talks and discussions and are also arranging and/or
sponsoring paragliding trips for less experienced pilots. Further development awaited.
New members of LLSC who have relatively low airtime or some other indicator: I very
arbitrarily defined low airtime as being 20 to 30 hours post CP. All new low airtime members
are contacted and welcomed to the club. Usually by phone but if not then email. I try to
cover Telegram groups, flying sites, how to get help, among other things which are vary
dependent on the individual. Our paragliding community is very welcoming and inclusive
once you break the ice. Everyone is encouraged to post to the telegram groups and by and
large they do quite quickly.
BHPA exams: The annual pilot days of pre-covid have been well received and very successful.
During Covid time I have been conducting exams on an individual basis and currently this is
my preferred approach as it allows so much more individual discussion. Usually about 7 or 8
a year so a pleasure not a chore. Currently 4 outstanding. Not limited to LLSC members.
We should acknowledge and thank Sam Smith for his initiative back in pre-covid times to
organise reserve packing training for us. LLSC now have 4 qualified BHPA Emergency System
Packers and several others soon to follow Scotland wide. Thanks Sam, it’s been fun and a
great asset for LLSC.
Any ideas, comments, or questions please feel free to message or phone me
Cheers, Fred.
Forestry - Alistair Bowman
Further felling done
Planting this year
Ian K has access to the accounts
£181k with further £5.25k income
Estimated £40k to replant 2 - 3 years plus maintenance
Kevin added he felled trees near the talker
Ongoing work planting
Various enquiries were made as to how much income the forestry earns the club?
Alistair B commented it was variable due to amount of timber being felled and the current price and demand of timber at the point of sale.
Paul P offered to cull deer if the club requires.
Alistair B declined the offer adding the club has a stalker and adding further shooting activity could cause concern over safety!
Replanting will be done, in the next 10 years, further felling will take place and the cycle starts again.
Alistair suggested further donation to the BHPA sites fund if projects did not absorb the club's income.
Kevin suggested further improvements to sites. Alistair added we don’t own much of Tinto such as the track. Proposals welcome.
An area on Tinto up for sale but Alistair B is opposed to acquiring any further land.
Ben J suggested a nominal amount (£40k) was kept in the club account to fund any projects, maintain club assets. Any moneys over this amount should be gifted to the BHPA site fund.
A suggestion was made to improve the N side track. Alistair B added its not our land so we have no control.
Linda W suggested a 4X4 could be purchased by the club to transport gliders to the top of Tinto.
Ben J stated concerns about the logistics of such assets. Maintenance, storage etc would be a concern.
LLSC BBQ and trophies - Neil Craig
Neil announced “save the date” 3 June 2023 for the BBQ
Fun event with potential fun comp (no NATS)
Wiston Lodge venue
The bbq site with teepee has changed to a site behind the cabins with a campfire
Linda W added NATs were difficult and SHPF been talking about a league style NATs
Linda and Iain added the BBQ could be an organised competition.
Neil added his BBQ plans would be focused on a fun event rather than an organised competition.
Ben added Neil and Linda could chat outside of the AGM with details.
Below is the Committee history with current vacant/unconfirmed rolls in yellow.
Prizegiving
NATS - NA
Tinto distance Graham Tydeman
28th of May, he managed 118.3km (story to be told?)
