Hello LIONESS team,

I have a problem with one of the automatically displayed messages. I do not understand why this message even appears.
Some participants told me they receive a message that they must log in before they can participate. But log in to what? Why is this message displayed, and how can I avoid it from being displayed?
I think I am losing volunteer participants because of this message....
Please help me!

Best,
Tomek

Hello Tomek,

I think this related to the cookies, is it possible that participants rejected them?

Best regards,
Jose

Hello all,

Unfortunately, Jose was not able to help me as he didn't know why the message might appear.
Lucas, Marcus, might you know?

I would like to know if it is possible to disable such messages or mechanisms so that participants can always participate.
Since I am posting the study for anonymous participation via different social media channels and mailing lists, I do not know who is trying to participate. Since they won't have my contact details if something goes wrong until they finished the study, they wouldn't be able to contact me about the study.

Please help me to avoid this message or similar messages from being shown to participants so that they don't drop out just because of a system-side "issue."

Thank you,
Tomek

Hi Thomas,

This seems related to this:

https://lioness-doc.readthedocs.io/en/latest/040_reference_manual.html#e-not-registered

For more liberal login procedures you can also switch on the test mode in the control panel. This short-cuts all kinds of checks.

Cheers, Lucas

Hey Lucas! Thank you for pointing me towards this and letting me know about the test mode.
However, I do have the test mode on and this "You are currently not logged in." message still appears for some participants sometimes.
And they all always get the same link (ending with _beginParticipant.php). For many people it works, but it seems like it does not work for some.
Might you know what else I could try?

Hi Thomas,

The registration can fail when the participant’s browser does not allow for cookies. One way forward might be to go to the Parameters of your experiment, and change the text in “message3” (which is by default “You are currently not logged in. You cannot participate in the HIT.”) to something to the effect of “Please enable cookies”.

Oh this is a great idea and tip! Thank you so much, Lucas. I will adjust the messages accordingly! :) Thank you.
