Hello!!

My first question actually concerns Gnarly Landscape Utilities 019. I am using this toolset to create 1) a core area polygon GIS file, and 2) a resistance raster GIS file, for use with the Linkage Mapper Toolset.

Using “Gnarly Resistance and Habitat Calculator” I successfully created both the Habitat and Resistance maps and it saved these files in a gdb called “scratchGDBHABITAT1.gdb” and “scratchGDBRESISTANCE1.gdb”.

To continue in “Gnarly Core Mapper” these files need to be in a Raster Grid format (as is the case in the demo). So I dropped each file from their original gdb to ArcMap. I then exported each as a GRID file to new location files called “Habitat” and “Resistance” to be used with “Gnarly Core Mapper”. I then added these locations to my Core Mapper Parameters excel sheet. However, each time I run “Gnarly Core Mapper” I receive this error message –

****Geoprocessing error. Details follow.****

Geoprocessing error on **line 146** of Core_Mapper.py :

Failed to execute. Parameters are not valid.

ERROR 000860: Input raster: is not the type of Composite Geodataset, or does not exist.

Failed to execute (GetRasterProperties).

Am I saving the files wrong?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you so much,

Jon

Hi Jon,

It has been a while since I used Gnarly tools deeply. For starters, please send us the file paths of the two GRID input files.  Seems that it is not liking the path or raster type. Hopefully someone that is using the tool more frequently can comment.  Also, I'll be at ICCB so may be delayed.

Thanks,

John

Hello John,

Thank you so much for your quick response. Here are my file paths you requested...

D:\JonathanCole\CanadaMap1990\Habitat

D:\JonathanCole\CanadaMap1990\Resistance

D:\JonathanCole\CanadaMap1990\Outputs

and here are the file paths from the demo.... (I tried to make mine as similar as possible)

C:\Gnarly\CoreMapperDemo\habitat

C:\Gnarly\CoreMapperDemo\resistance

C:\Gnarly\output

As for my raster GRID files

they look like this (Habitat for example)...

Habitat file 1.PNG

and within the habvalues folder...

Habitat file 2.PNG

and within the info folder...

Habitat file 3.PNG

Whereas the demo habitat folder looks like this...

Demo Habitat folder.PNG

So, am I saving the file wrong?

Thank you so much for your help,

Jon

Hi Jon,

I would examine those files in arc Catalog, not windows explorer.  and if they look fine there, maybe do a few calculations on them to be sure, especially on the one tha is causing the error.

Thanks,

John

Hello John,

It turns out that the problem was that my folder names were different from my file names - and the program didn’t seem to like that at all! lol. Once I corrected this - it worked perfectly. I have since gone on to perform a test run in Linkage Mapper on my study area using the core area and resistance layers created in Gnarly Resistance and Habitat Calculator and Gnarly Core Mapper - and that too seems to have worked perfectly as well.

Thank you very much for your help,

Jon

Hi Jon,

That is great!  You're welcome.  And thanks so much for remembering to circle back and give us an update.

Cheers,

Hi!
I am currently running linkage mapper and the cell size for my cost raster is 120m by 120m. However, the linkage mapper output is giving me a cell size of around 36m by 36m.

Has anyone had this problem before? If so, what did you do to overcome this issue?

Thanks!

Hi Brielle,

I have never had that problem, has anyone else out there?

I can speculate a bit though. for the running of any tool in ArcGIS, you have the ability to override the default environmental settings (in this case the output cell size = to the input cell size).  Perhaps that is happening somehow in your case.  If your tool is on a modelbuilder model, you can check the environmental settings of the model, or of the tool step itself.

If that is not the case, I can brainstorm other ways of troubleshooting if you like, just let me know.

And again, has anyone else come across this issue?

Thanks,

John

I realized that there was an issue with the units and the cost raster was 120ft by 120ft which is equivalent to about 36m.
Thanks for the help!

Error Linkage Mapper

Hello John! I am trying to join two polygons with Linkage Mapper. I am working with Arcmap 10 and 10.5 since I am trying two different computers but it takes a long time and does not finish running the analysis. When I tried to do it for a smaller area I could run the analysis. One of the times I tried it, he gave me an error message saying that the problem was running CostAllocation.
Thank you so much!
