The last month has been a period of great transition in my life. My sabbatical continues that transition. I'll say more about a major driver of this transition in another post.
Imo, it's important to regard transitions as processes, without rigid starting and ending points.
I have treated this last week as a transition time that ended with the formal start of the sabbatical. But all this week began the process of beginning the sabbatical :-) Similarly, the sabbatical didn't completely start yesterday. I expect the start of the sabbatical to continue for at least another week, that is, until Leo 6.3 final goes out the door.
Why are these fine distinctions important? Because they matter. A lot.
All transitions are stressful, and probably none more stressful than those involving lifelong patterns such as my involvement with Leo. For major changes such as a sabbatical, it's seems vital to ensure that the sabbatical will succeed. The way to do that is to continue as much as I can, while having a very different focus in life. In other words, it's important now to be as gentle on myself as I can.
Hence these Sabbatical Chronicle posts. Hence a relaxed period of transition.
Summary
Major transitions are processes. Transitions don't happen all at once.
Major transitions can be extremely stressful. Being as gentle as I can with myself gives the sabbatical the best chance of success.
