@tabwidth with no argument?

we see @tabwidth with no argument.

However in the docs for directives:

https://leoeditor.com/directives.html#part-5-all-other-directives

we see no indication that the integer argument can be omitted.

Can it be omitted? What happens if it is omitted?

Good catch.  Fixed (in LeoDocs.leo only) at rev cd91452 in devel.  All web docs will be updated when 6.1 goes out the door.
