The First label shows what is on my plate at the moment.  And then there is #1314 :-) I have just created the related #1316. The stack of exciting, unfinished projects is growing. They shouldn't be left hanging for long.

This happy state of affairs creates challenges. It take hours to discuss progress and exciting ideas. Somehow I must remain calm, manage my energy, and preserve my health.

The overall strategy is clear:

1. Never rely on memory.

I will create issues for anything that I might otherwise have to remember.  Relying on memory is the #1 road to burnout.

2. Cultivate calm and patience.

#1316 illustrates the challenge.  It was worth doing years ago, when we required a version of Python 2 that allowed subclassing dicts. It's certainly worth doing now, when I am neck deep in Leo's settings machinery.

Alas, #1316 will delay all the other projects! Patience will help me code and test properly.

I hope you all will remain patient with me.  Nobody is as eager to finish all these nifty projects as I am.

You have mine. This part is easy for me. I simply can't do what you can do! ;-)

A mental switch has flipped regarding the present work:

1. Time to pay my bills :-) This always calms me.

2. I'll "give" myself about a week for:

a) the present settings work,
b) the next phase of the pyzo in Leo project, and
c) documentation issues.

Mentally allocating plenty of time is a good mental trick. There is no point in rushing through any of these.

3. It's time to reestablish a life outside of programming.  This includes piano and painting. Rebecca and I are planning to take about a week off for our annual September trip.

Summary

It's pointless to put off life for meaningless deadlines.  There will always be another project or five. It's important, enjoyable and healthy to balance work and life.  It's easy to forget this when so much exciting stuff is happening.
