Terry, how does one set the default free_layout layout?

This came up because messing with the viewrendered providers may have created problems when restoring layouts.

I had a quick look. I think the default default, i.e. fresh start default, is just the (long ago) pre-freelayout layout code, using NestedSplitter instead of QSplitter.
Not sure if that's what you mean though?

Here's what is confusing me. The splitter menu has these items:
- "Restore initial layout"
- "Restore default layout"
How does one set the default layout? Presumably one doesn't want to load a layout every time one restarts Leo.
